Monday already?

and the days fly by so fast I can't keep up with them.  I remember thinking when my daughter was a baby and suffered so with the colic, if I can just get her a few months older then I can make it.  She is way more than a few months older and I wonder where the time went.

I have been to workout this morning.  Funny thing about my workouts, my backdoesn't bother me while I am working out.  The minute I get home and try anything that involves standing in place or bending over my back goes wild.  It is just as if I never had back surgery.  I did get the sweeper run over the weekend and the floors mopped.  I have this routine worked out where I clean one room, rest my back 5 minutes and then go on to the next room.

The petunias around the front of my house look so pretty right now.  They are the ones the squirrels kept digging up.

My other container with the pansies in it isn't looking as good.  Still have plenty of weeds coming up in the rocks.  I need to have the rock redone around the house and garage but I am just not up to it.  I have trimmed all of the shrubs and bushes as best I can.  They do look some better.

I hope you all have a good week.  I am thinking if the MJ memorial interrupts Y&R tomorrow that I will be one unhappy camper!!

The sun is shining today and it is HOT.  I have books to return to the library and I think I will take the car instead of walking.

My beautiful bean tree...

is loaded with beans.  The honey locust bean tree is supposed to produce beans every other year.  Imagine the surprise I got when 'Honey' had beans last year making it the first time in her life she produced beans 2 years in a row.

I am waiting for her to go through the change of life but I think the old gal is gonna be productive forever.  Tongue out  I cuss at the city each fall when I have to clean up those darn beans.  Too make matters worse the squirrels just love the beans and they make a sticky gooey mess when they eat them.  The only redeeming factor for Honey is that she gives me a lot of shade, thus helping on the AC bill.

It rained all day long yesterday, a nice steady rain which amounted to over 1 inch.  The flowers and tomatoes loved it.
Click on pics for a clear picture.

All of the 4th of July events were cancelled including the fireworks.  I watched the Boston Pops special on CBS last night.  It was great and the fireworks were spectacular.

The sun is finally shining.  It came out an hour or so ago and it is 78degrees right now.  Just a perfect day.  I hope the sun is shining wherever you are.

Friday...

and it is warming up so the AC comes back on today.

I am just home from workout.  I stopped by the store for corn on the cob and fried chicken from the deli.  I have small red potatoes and eggs cooking on the stove and I am going to make potato salad.  I invited Nan from Florida to come and eat with me.  Carole, grab your boys and Miss Catt and come on over.  Carol bring your mom and stop by and pick up Shelly and Stephen.  Stephen (Peoria) holler at my daughter and son in law and tell them to stop by and pick you up.  Cindy, you and Jim stop by and pick up Sherry and Terry and head on down.  Patsy, please stop by and pick up my sister and brother in law.  Patty, you and Jerry are in the upper part so get moving, you have a way to go.  Paul, I can't think of anyone for you to pick up but we will all be on the lookout for you.  Ms Toodie, bring Mr Hugh and comeon up, you don't have all that far to travel.  Sorry, Carole, I don't like mustard potato salad, I use mayo.  We will top it all off with strawberry shortcake.  Sorry if I missed anyone.  My Canadian friends and those from across the pond, you are all welcome.  Joe, bring Lovely and the kids and come right over.

Whew, that wore me out so I better close this computer down and start cooking.  I hope you all have a Blessed 4th.  My personal thanks to the men and women in the military.  I love you all and I am proud of you all, especially Pep in Korea.

What an awesome Thursday this is...

and I am enjoying it immensely.  It is 75 degrees right now and the sun peeks through the clouds every now and then.  Yesterday afternoon I spent a couple of hours trimming my big shrub in the front of the house.  Then this morning I spent about an hour trimming bushes.  I finally had to quit when my back started hurting.

No more NCIS on till next week.  I see CBS is showing a Boston Pops special featuring Neil Diamond on Saturday night at 9PM.  I will have to watch that as Diamond is one of my favorite singers.  I love his Christmas ablums.  His Tennessee Moon album is my favorite.  I think because he sings duets with country singers.  My favorite song on this album is "Good Day Today."  It is hilarious.  If you have never heard it before, I have it playing on my main page.

I was planning to do some more stuff outside but I have to put the heating pad on my back this afternoon.  This weekend I am commited to cleaning my house whether I want to or not.  And believe me, I don't want to.

I hope you are all in line for a great 4th of July weekend.  I will be spending it quietly.  My neighbors on both sides will be gone.

Wednesday...

and what a wonderful remarkable change in the weather.  This is July 1 and it is only 63 degrees at noon.  I love it.  I actually have jeans on today.

I went to workout this morning, first time I had been since last Friday.  Everything went OK and I am working up to full potential.  Now if I could just start eating the right foods I think I could lose some weight.  Never happen though.  Smile  I am too old to dig in to  a strict diet.  I love the chocolates my son brings me but I do tend to pig out on them.  Good thing he doesn't bring them but every couple of months.

Doggone it, NCIS has another marathon on today so that means I won't get anything done.  I have Evanovich's Finger Lickin' Fifteen which I am trying to read during commercial breaks.  While Y&R was on I had to switch from one show to the other.  I am hopelessly addicted to both shows.  I know, I know, I need to get a life.  Wink  But then, there is nobody on hand to tell me that.  I do need to get to the library to pick up a couple of books that are on hold for me.

Gotta go, life is waiting.

Whew!! I made it home...

and in one piece too.The traffic for the 4th of July has definitely started.  I saw one Fuzz further north on 57.  Most people were defiitely speeding although the truckers were not.  The wind is blowing at a pretty good pace out there and some of the semis were swaying back and forth a little.  I was glad to get around them.  I have mentioned before that my dad was a truck driver so you know that I have great admiration for them.  Of course when my dad drove was in the days before cell phones and log sheets and pills to keep you awake.

Breakfast was nice and my son brought me another box of the handmade chocolates.  They are so good!!!

Did I mention that it is only 73 degrees today and I am loving it.  It is pretty cloudy.  I took a few pics of the sky for Carole this morning as I know that she loves pics of skies.

The sky at iHop this morning.
The sky looking out my back door.

The corn is finally growing.  It should be twice this high by now.

I hope you all are having a good day so far.

One down and one to go...

and I am home from my doctor appointment minus 6 tubes of blood.  I just hate going to the doctor.  The traffic on the interstate is already in the 4th of July mode and everyone was speeding .  (Not me  Wink )  There were no fuzz out so I imagaine they are saving the manpower for later on in the week.  I will be glad to get the trip done tomorrow.

I think some of you have visited my recipe space that is dedicated to my Jim.  When I first started that space in March of 2007 it was just 3 months after Jim's death in Dec. 2006.  In the beginning I had a space where I was writing my own little feel sorry for me posts.  It was somewhere I posted  blogs that were not upbeat at all.  I couldn't seem to get a grip so that I could pull myself up.  Then one day a very nice young lady namedShelly visited my space and gave me a nice talking too.  It was stern but it was just the jolt I needed.  I changed my space right away.  I have posted almost 300 old family photos.  I have recipes from several members of my family and even a few from some of my blogging friends.  Shelly has become as dear to me as a daughter and she has done more for me the last 2 years with her caring than the so called grief counselor I saw.  Love ya Shelly and I am very proud of you.

I am tired so I am not doing workout today.  I will have to wait till Wednesday to get back in the groove.

Hugs,
Beth

Sunday...

and it is a lovely day.  At 84 degrees it is 10 degrees cooler than it was at this time yesterday.

I am just home from visiting my old neighbor in the nursing home.  She is somewhat improved since she has been to Mayo Clinic and started new treatments a few months ago.  It is tough visiting someone in a nursing home and I really have to force myself to do it.  Shame on me.  I took her some fudge and some lemon cheese bars that I had in the freezer.  I hope that I never end up in a nursing home.

There is nothing new happening around here.  I have a doctor appointment in the morning and then on Tuesday morning I am meeting my son for breakfast.  iHop here I come.  Two days in a row on the interstate, one going south and the other going north.  I hope the 4th of July traffic holds off till later in the week.

I hope you all had a good weekend and that the week to come will be perfect.

Saturday...

and it is still hot and humid.  It is supposed to cool off tonight as a cold front moves through.  I hope we get som rain along with it.  I watered the flowers and the tomatoes this morning but it is not the same.

I have some boneless pork spareribs cooking in the crockpot.  They won't be done for hours yet so I will have some tomorrow and put the rest in the freezer.

I have said many times before that I adore Julie Larson's cartoons.  This next one struck me as so funny.  I always marvel at the fact that there really are people in the world like this family.

I have my back hurting after I pulled some weeds  this morning.  They sprout up through the rocks I have around the house.

Friday and all set for a wild weekend...

with a book and the NCIS marathon.   Wink

I am home from the dermatologist vist where I had several sun damage spots frozen.

This cartoon is posted in every office at the dermatologist's office.  The doctor kindly made me a copy when I asked for it for my blog.

I stopped by Meijer and got their Friday specials.  2 lbs of strawberrie for $2.75, bananas for 39cents a lb, etc.

I am posting a pic of one of my tomato plants for Shelly.  The plants are all doing extremely well in the weeds and I have green tomatoes about the size of a large plum on all of the plants.

All of this running is wearing me out.  I have one more doctor appointment on Monday with my primary care physician.  Hopefully that will be it till September. It is still very warm here at 93 degrees right now.

Have a wonderful weekend!

It was Thursday the last time I looked...

and we are in line for another day of heat, humidity and thunderstorms predicted by noon.  I am heading for the beauty shop for a haircut at 8:30 then on down to the fitness center to do the cardio exercise (treadmill, etc.)

Tomorrow morning I have an appointment in the big city with the dermatologist.  Warning, you may look really good with a sun tan but you will pay for it big time in years to come.  Use the sun block!!

What do you think of yet another government official getting caught with his pants down?  Word of advice to all polititians, keep your britches pulled up and stay off the computer.  Those emails will getcha every time.  There is no privacy in today's world.  Wink

Short post today as I am literally speechless.  Unbelievable, but true.

Keep cool all of you and keep a watchful eye on your elderly neighbors.

Yesterday was a tiring day...

to begin with it was a dreadful hot humid day.  Then I had an appointment with the surgeon for 2:30 and  he was held up in surgery and didn't get there till 5.  I had the option to reschedule  but the next appt I could get was 27 July.  So I just sat there and waited.  I was the first to get in when he got there as the appts ahead of me had all rescheduled.  Anyway I was home by 6:30.  The traffic was terrible both ways.  Coming home I was in the after work traffic.  It was all under control though as there were 5 fuzzies stopping vehicles.  I got good news from the doctor, another ultra sound in 6 months which puts it right at Christmas time again.  No surgery for now which was a huge relief for me.

I have gone back to my Twitter account.  If you are on Twitter you can follow me at http://twitter.com/adutchmaid.

Still hot and humid today.  After workout I am not leaving the AC unless it is an emergency.

I hope you all have great day.

Busy Monday...

and I have been to workout.   Then the technician came from my ISP office and hooked up a router for me for the laptop computer that my brother gave to me.  The technician is such a nice guy.  (It is really great having all local people at a local ISP) After he got everything hooked up he got my virus protection and everything on the laptop up to date.  It is a really cool computer.  I love the built in webcam.  Now I have to get messenger loaded on there and I will be all set.

It is so very hot and humid.  It is to be even hotter tomorrow and I have a doctor appointment that isn't until 2:30 PM.  By that time in the afternoon it will be roasting outside.  NO, I am not complaining cause I said I wouldn't complain about the heat if I could just get away from the ice and snow.  Well, maybe I am complaining just a little bit.  It's my blog though so I guess I can complain if I want to.  Wink  Watch for new complaints from me this fall and winter.

After such a busy morning I don't feel like doing anything more at all so I guess I won't do anything.

I hope this is a good week for us all.

Happy Father's Day in my own words...

Daddy, I was the one of your kids most outspoken

You called me Boogie,I smiled at that affectionate token.

I didn't smile when you spanked my hind end and I'd run

For something one of the other kids had done.

Daddy, you worked  hard, and I wish I had known,

I didn't appreciate you  till I had children of my own.

I miss you Daddy and I am sending a hug up to you.

I'd like very much if you would tell Mom I miss her too.

***********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Jim, you were  the very best dad to our children.

I could always count on you and I appreciated it so much.

I couldn't think of a way to say this that would rhyme,

So I will just say "Happy Fathers' Day"

Sending love and hugs up to you from the kids and me.

Hugs,

Beth

**************************************************************************************************************************************************************

I am definitely not a poet, so please don't laugh at my efforts.  It's ok to smile though.  Smile  I salute all of the father's in the world who are playing an active part in their children's lives.

Just in case you need a laugh...

Remember it takes a college degree to fly a plane, but only a high school diploma to fix one; a reassurance to those of us who fly routinely in our jobs. After every flight, UPS pilots fill out a form, called a 'gripe sheet,' which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight.

Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by UPS ' pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance
 engineers.

By the way, UPS is the only major airline that has never, ever, had an accident.

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.
*
P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.
*
P: Something loose in cockpit
S: Something tightened in cockpit
*
P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on back-order.
*
P:
Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent.
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.
*
P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.
*
P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.
*
P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S: That's what friction locks are for.
*
P: IFF inoperative in OFF mode.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.
*
P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.
*
P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search
*
P: Aircraft handles funny.
(I love this one!)
S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right and be serious.

Hot Humid Friday!!!

This could have been me last week.  I have finally settled on the routine that I will follow each morning.  It takes approximately 1 hour and that is long enough for me.  I am not doing any of the overhead workouts.

It is ghastly hot today and the humidity is unbearable.  We are under a severe thunderstorm watch.  I have things I wanted to do outdoors but those things can wait until the weather calms down.

I have no plans for the weekend.  I think I will just veg out and catch the NCIS marathon.  I hope you all have a great weekend.

Rhubarb Pie and yes it is Thursday...

I woke up this morning to a big thunderstorm.  I thought that would be the end of my plans for the morning.  I had decided to forego my cardio exercise this morning and go to the big city for shopping at Meijer.  By 8:30 it had cleared enough that I decided to go anyway.  One thing about a big thunderstorm, it clears the store out and shopping was easy this morning; no waiting in line at all.  Traffic was pretty heavy on the interstate, but it will be until after Labor Day.  I just get out there and go.  I figure that if it is my time to go it is my time.  Heaven knows some of the drivers do try to kill you.  As I was coming home I was passed by a lady in a Cooper convertible.  She was doing approximately 80 mph.  I had the cruise control set on 65 which is the IL speed limit.  It wasn't long till she had slowed down and I was right on her tail.  As I passed her I saw she was writing something on a piece of paper and holding her telephone.  I did not do anything but give her my most nasty look as I passed her.
2009 Cooper mini convertible.

I have a rhubarb/strawberry cobbler in the oven.  My cobbler is just the pie recipe put in a 13x9 pan.  It smells good. I need to go check on it now so I will catch you all later.

Whew! It is Wednesday...

and I am getting the hang of the workout stuff.  I still can't do all of the different things but I spent an hour working out this morning and I do believe that is enough for me to strive for.  My favorite ones are the lower back and the ab crunch...done in increments of 12 rest a minute, 10 rest a minute and 8 rest a minute.  The weights are 60, 70 and 80 for the lower back and 40, 40, and 40 for the ab crunch.  I start my workout with 20 minutes of cardio which can be either the treadmill or the different bikes or a combination of both.  I have been doing 10 minutes on each.  I will work up to more as I go along.

The street department was painting the yellow parking markers uptown today so I won't be going back to town unless I walk.  That paint gets on everything/

It is pretty nice here today but it is getting really humid.  Predicted high for tomorrow is 92 which is above my comfort zone to get out and do anything in it.

Spaces is either all messed up or I need to expedite purchasing my new computer.

Now I will see if I can find you all for a visit.

Max the cat in the library and other asst topics...

Yesterday afternoon I grabbed two books to return to the library .  I walked on the walkway over the railroad cut.  Everything was green and pretty on that walk.  I took a few pictures and posted them.

Then at the library I asked the lady who didn't used to be friendly but is now friendly if I could take a picture of Max.  She very graciously said I could.  (click on pic for a clearer vier)  Max lives at the library.  He is an old friend of mine.  He lets me pet him when I go in the library and I contribute several times a year to Max's maintenance fund.

Today I went to the fitness center and did my cardio workout which can consist of treadmill or any one of the different bikes there.  Not so many young people there so I am thinking the younger ones workout on Mon, Wed and Fri.  Tomorrow for my main workout I will go mid morning and see how that is.

It is drizzling rain here this morning and we are in line for thunderstorms this afternoon.  We need a shower but not a thunderstorm.

I need to get moving now.  I hope you all have a relaxing day.  That is what I am striving for.
