Love it or hate it…

I made it.  I made fruit cake today.  As soon as it is cooled I will drizzle that expensive rum on it a couple of times a week until Christmas time.Stored in the fridge it would keep for a long time soaked in rum.

001

This is just some of the cakes.  I made 5 large and 4 small.  To me there is nothing like homemade fruit cake.  I usually make 2 batches but there will be only one this year.  The ingredients are so expensive  and it is so time consuming to make and then it takes over an hour to bake.  I think this old gal is feeling her age.

I had to make a quick trip to the big city this morning to get the candied fruit.  It has gone up from $5.49 to $5.99 for an 8 oz container this year.  One lb each of walnuts and pecans and it was an expensive trip.

The traffic on the interstate was heavy at 7:30 this morning.  I saw 2 motorcycle fuzz. I didn’t see a one on a motorcycle this summer but they were sitting out there in the cold today and writing tickets.  Put 2 of them together to the side of the road and they are not noticeable until you are right on them.  I know where the fuzz set up because I travel this road so much so I always slow down before I get to that spot.  LOL  But then of course, I never speed.

I hope you are all having a great weekend.

Never have been a big fan of fruitcake...(I was raised on German Stollen...German Christmas Cake)....my hubby, on the other hand would have that cake of yours eated in one sitting. I must admit, it does look very appealing.

"The Fuzz"....LOL it has been a while since I heard that.

Have a wonderful week Beth

hi beth, your fruit cake looks good and I am sure tastes good. the christmas fruit cakes here are rather different looking. like the idea of the candied fruit, (not orange) and the walnuts and pecans. it is interesting that you keep it in the fridge, dont think many here keep fruit cakes in the fridge. to my shame I dont bake anymore, partly because of the temptation of keep eating it. my mother use to make lovely christmas puddings, very rich, which in the long distant past I have been known to eat for breakfast, but not anymore my breakfast these days is much healthier, usually, pineapple followed by fruit bread with makua honey and cinnamon and fresh strawberries. okay dont really know why I told you about my breakfast, off to bed soon now. hugs - nita.

Oh I am totally here to say your fruitcakes are the greatest!!! Oh you are right..there is NOTHING like homemade fruitcake. Like canned mushrooms, store bought fruitcake is not much to eat. Very disappointing.
I am back, tired to the bone but I had a super time.
(((HUGS))) and lots of 'em.

Although the fruitcake looks good, I just can't handle the candied fruit! I don't know the last time I heard the cops referred to as "fuzz" but I think it was back in the 60's! Love it! At least you didn't refer to them as "pigs."

Beth...I love you to peices! You my dear were a wonderful caregiver. I have been there to with family and friends but not a spouse. I want you to know you did your best for that time. Could we change things when we loose a loved one Absolutely. But You did good when I know it was hard as heck. My remarks in the post were for those who think they are caregivers but when it comes to be the real deal they bolt .Or they think of only themselves. Not those who give tiredlessly as you did or my husband. We need more like you and him...who are there and don't leave. So that said...friends like you and a hand full of really good ones I have make up the difference for the ones who are hurtful and can't deal with the situation. I love you Beth. Your friendship means the world to me. Always Hope.

Sorry Beth but I am not a fan of fruitcake though I admit yours looks quite appealing. I can't remember who said it but it was once said that there are only 7 fruitcakes, well 8 including yours, in the world and we all keep giving them to each other. Then again as Seth said below maybe there is a difference between store bought and home made. I would try a slice of yours.

Your fruit cake is very special. Will you be making your fab fudge also? I should have had Christmas cookies baked by now and frosted and boxed. But alas not the spirit yet. Motorcycle cops, I haven't seen those in ages. I hope you have a wonderful tomorrow Beth.
