11/5/2009 YAY!!! muscles…This morning at my doctor visit the young man who took my temp and blood pressure asked me how I got muscles in my arms. I told him it was from working out and lifting the fixed weights. He was amazed and told me that none of his ‘older’ patients had muscles. I thought that was a very nice compliment and I was really enjoying it until I remembered he said older. That took me down a peg or two. LOL I also had lab work done for my next doctor appointment which is on the 19th. I also got a tetanus shot. This month and next are filled with doctor appointments for me. Traffic was very heavy on the interstate this morning. As I was coming home one young gal in a pretty old car passed me going he** bent for leather. Then as she had just passed she suddenly slammed on her brakes just a ways in front of me. I am sure glad He was holding my right hand. (Thank you Carole) I was able to put on my brakes to avoid hitting her. I am sure the car behind me was thrilled too. Anyway, before I started home I swung across the street and ate at the Hometown Buffet. I had chicken, cornbread dressing, cole slaw and some peach cobbler. I also shopped at Meijer and got a ham on the off chance that any of my family come to see me over Thanksgiving. At this point, it looks like I will be alone, so stop by as I also bought a frozen Marie Callender pecan pie. Gotta go as my house looks like a tornado hit it. The kitchen table is filled with groceries. I didn’t get that apple pie made but I definitely want some now that Musicman mentioned it so I think I will do that tomorrow after workout. Have a great weekend. Hugs, Beth 8/28/2009 Potatoes...and man I love this one. Potatoes can help you to live longer. I love potatoes, salad, mashed, scalloped, augratin, french fried, fixed any way at all I love potatoes. Probably because I ate a lot of potatoes growing up and maybe because I am half Irish. I was just reading an article on the net this morning that stated that axiety, stress and depression can all be linked to a Viatamin B-6 deficiency. Potatoes, bananas, red meat and poultry can all help in raising the dopamine content in your brain. Bring on the taters. I'm ready.
I am just home from workout and have the breaded pork chops ready for the oven. It rained buckets here last night and is still raining. I heard on the scanner that we had over 4 inches of rain last night so of course we are under a flash flood watch. Not me as I am not near any water. The creeks, streams and rivers are at flood level now in my county and the big city county.
Gotta close now and get a few things done before my brother gets here. My telephone service is down this morning but I have my expensive to operate cell phone turned on so I am on call.
8/21/2009 Early Birthday Present...What a lovely surprise I received in the mail today. It was an early birthday gift from my nephew Adam in WV. It is the 5th season DVD of NCIS.
I hope you can see the note that came with it. It reads "to Aunt Beth, the world's greatest aunt, from Adam." This brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Adam. Love ya!! This was such a nice surprise as I got up this morning not feeling well at all with what I think must have been something I ate yesterday. I had decided not to go to workout this morning. Now I will just sit in my recliner and watch my favorite show.
I still am getting no alerts and just a few updates and I know lots of you are not getting my updates.
I hope you all have a great weekend.!!
7/3/2009 Friday...and it is warming up so the AC comes back on today.
I am just home from workout. I stopped by the store for corn on the cob and fried chicken from the deli. I have small red potatoes and eggs cooking on the stove and I am going to make potato salad. I invited Nan from Florida to come and eat with me. Carole, grab your boys and Miss Catt and come on over. Carol bring your mom and stop by and pick up Shelly and Stephen. Stephen (Peoria) holler at my daughter and son in law and tell them to stop by and pick you up. Cindy, you and Jim stop by and pick up Sherry and Terry and head on down. Patsy, please stop by and pick up my sister and brother in law. Patty, you and Jerry are in the upper part so get moving, you have a way to go. Paul, I can't think of anyone for you to pick up but we will all be on the lookout for you. Ms Toodie, bring Mr Hugh and comeon up, you don't have all that far to travel. Sorry, Carole, I don't like mustard potato salad, I use mayo. We will top it all off with strawberry shortcake. Sorry if I missed anyone. My Canadian friends and those from across the pond, you are all welcome. Joe, bring Lovely and the kids and come right over.
Whew, that wore me out so I better close this computer down and start cooking. I hope you all have a Blessed 4th. My personal thanks to the men and women in the military. I love you all and I am proud of you all, especially Pep in Korea.
6/12/2009 Wait till you see my neighbor's birthday present...and it is a 1967 Chevy Chevelle, totally redone and looking brand new. It was parked in my driveway so I thought it might be a present for me. LOL I wouldn't know what to do with it.
Sandi was ringing my doorbell this morning at 6:45 telling me to come outside and look at her husband's birthday present. Yesterday was his 51st birthday. So you see I have young neighbors on both sides of me. This is the same kind of car he drove when he was in high school. They found it on eBay.
It is beautiful outside today, sunshine and 62 degrees right now with the high to be in the upper 70s. I am heading over to workout in an hour or so and then afterwards I am planning to go on to the big city for groceries and then on to Cheddars if I still have any energy left.
It finally faired off yesterday and I went outdoors and worked more on trimming shrubs. I love working outdoors if only my back would cooperate. Oh well, a little at a time is better than nothing.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
12/10/2008 Deleted Previous Blog...Much to my surprise my previous blog caused my space to go haywire so I deleted it. I was just complaining about our arrested governor anyway so if you didn't see it you didn't miss a thing. LOL
I have finished the snickerdoodle cookies. Dontcha just hate it when some of them break apart and there is no other choice but to eat them. LOL Only happened to a few this morning.
Again, I hope you all are having a good day. Stay safe and be happy!!!
12/3/2008 The Twilight Zone??????Help, am I living in the twilight zone, or is this a remake of a Laurel and Hardy Movie? "What a fine fix you've got us in Oliver."
You know, I didn't mind the advertisement at the top of my space. To be quite honest I ignored it.
I took a few hours away from the computer last night to watch CSI and The Mentalist. When I got back online at 9PM I am confronted with this awful mess. I suddenly have 171 messenger contacts (I have never heard of most of them) where before I had just a few...and low and behold not only that but my full name is out in plain sight for each of these 171 contacts to see. Spaces, you have gone way out of bounds on that one!!!!! Privacy, what privacy?????
Now, I don't want to be mean, I can see maybe a tiny advantage to the new changes, but like I said before, I didn't mind the ad at the top of the page.
Well, I guess I am through ranting for just a minute. If you can find me in the midst of all of this ka** leave me a comment and I will try and find you and do the same.
Stay safe and be happy!! 4/1/2008 Tuesday...
I seem to have a pretty persistent cough. I slept all of yesterday afternoon and about 11 hours last night. I feel fairly decent this morning so I am going to try workout again. Yesterday did wear me out and I think that is why I slept all afternoon. It is in the 30s here and dreary. At least the rain has stopped. My niece is still in the hospital. She is to have more tests today. So far ulcerative colitis and a bleeding ulcer have been diagnosed. Please continue to remember her in your prayers. Stay safe and be happy!! 3/23/2008 Mud Rain????I just finished speaking with my daughter. She lives in the most central part of the state. They had something rare occur there this weekend, mud rain. I googled it and there were just bits and pieces of info. http://www.pilotsofamerica.com/ had some interesting comments. My daughter said the rain was brown and coated the cars with a muddy substance. I had never heard of such a thing so naturally I had to google it right away. Also lots of excitement for them. They live off a major thoroughfare with a golf course directly across the way. The deer run wild there and last night they had 3 run in the neighbor's yard and soon heard a thump as one of the deer was hit by a car. Deer's are so beautiful. Jim and I used to ride out to the forest preserve and just sit and watch them. Sadly though, the deer population has gotten out of control, and at least once or twice a year we have a deer caused automobile fatality. I have spent a quiet weekend as yesterday and today I haven't felt well. I will be talking some things over with the doctor when I see him on Wednesday. My daughter is coming to go with me. I was so happy when she told me she was coming. I hope you all had a wonderful day and rejoiced in the fact that He is risen. Stay safe and be happy! 2/2/2008 Saturday and the other shoe dropped last night...around 6:30PM last night it felt like it was getting colder in the house. The furnace was running but no air was coming out of the registers. I called the heating/plumbing guy. I talked to his answering machine and he called me back in a few minutes. He said he and his wife were having dinner with family and he would stop by after he ate. He came at 8:00 and worked on the furnace till 9:30. He had to go to his shop and get a part and bring it back. By 9:30 I had heat again. What do you think that bill will cost?? I shudder to think. Oh well, we gotta stay warm. My neighbor ran my snow blower and cleaned up all of our neighborhood really good. Interesting fact about my snow blower. I saved my money (over $800) and got it as a surprise for Jim. He got very sick almost immediately after and never got to use it. I (and my neighbor down the street) have the only 2 big snow blowers in the neighborhood. My next door neighbor in the picture loves to play with it. I fixed an apple pie for him for after he was finished. That's it for today. I hope to be able to get to the post office today. Still missing some tax stuff. Stay safe and be happy! 12/4/2007 Amazing...
It is amazing what you find out when you listen to the news on TV and read the newspaper. I found out that our high school and adjoining jr. high were on a Code Red lock down all day yesterday after an undisclosed amount of ammunition was found on the premises. A search dog from the big city was brought in. Today each student entering the schools had their back packs searched and a metal detector was used. Things keep happening in our little bitty town. What's up? Are we too close to Cgo and to the interstate? I am so glad that my kids are grown. I visited the city today and bought a couple more Christmas gifts. I don't know what to buy and when I ask they all say they don't want anything. I think I am about through shopping. Nothing exciting happened on the interstate and for that I am thankful. Our forecast is for 2 - 4 inches of snow tonight. If that occurs I definitely will not be able to travel north. I will have to hide the cookies somewhere as they are so good and I have eaten too many. I did have my workout today but I need to workout a lot more to get rid of the cookies. For some reason I am developing another headache today. See you all later. 10/6/2007 WOW!!ILLINOIS 31, Wisconsin 26 I don't usually get caught up in UI football. Jim was a big football fan ever since his football playing days in high school. I am a basketball and baseball fan because I thoroughly understand the games. I understand nothing about football. Today, though, I was riveted to the game between the Illini and the Badgers. What has happened to our Illinois football team? Last year they played so badly I was embarrassed for them. Hey, my Jim, I hope you were able to tune in to today's game. You would have been proud. It is so hot here today, 90 degrees again; it was 90 yesterday and is to be again tomorrow. I am glad I never got around to covering the AC yet. I hope it cools off before the wedding because I wanted to wear some heels and matching patterned socks. (Inside joke) I cleaned up half of the beans in front of my house. I will get the rest whenever it cools off. Hats off to the Illini. 6/25/2007 Wonderful surprise...My sister and b-i-l from WV arrived yesterday. We have been busy visiting and eating out (yes again, I will be spoiled for my TV dinners.) Tomorrow my brother is coming back for a visit with them. Back out to eat again. :o) My sis Rae on the left with me taken this morning. Take note of the matching T's. Rae brought me one like hers. I will be visiting in a couple of days after my family has gone home. 3/3/2007 Guess what....Surprise, surprise. More snow last night. It looks like a couple of inches. I will have to clean the porch and walk off before I can do my daily postal run.
My brother-in-law is home from the hospital. My niece is having a bone marrow test on March 12th. Please remember them in your prayers.
Yesterday I did absolutely nothing. The thought ran through my head of making a pineapple upside down cake but I forced that thought away. My next door neighbor says he is going to have to go to a bigger pant size if I don't quit baking. They are a very nice couple in their early 50's and as I have mentioned in my blogs before, very good to me. So as the wind was blowing like crazy I finished reading a book. Tara Road by Maeve Binchy. Very good book. I read all 500 plus pages of this one.
I received a call from my doctor's office. I need to go for more lab work. Then I see the specialists (two) on March 13. My WV sis won't be able to come as she has her husband and daughter to take care of. My brother will come and go with me. I really was looking forward to seeing my sister again. When I get myself straightened out I will take a trip to WV.
I hope you all are having a great weekend. I know that my blogging friends in Wisconsin and Michigan are as sick of the snow as I am. So I am shouting, "C'mon Spring!" 1/29/2007 Guess what...This morning I received such a surprise. In the mail was a package for me from Jim's nephew in Wisconsin. He is the one who bought Jim's truck. In the package were the license plates from the truck and the other garage door opener. WOW!! Now I have 2 garage door openers for the truck side of the garage and no truck.
It has been bitter cold here the last couple of days with snow flurries. Yesterday I baked some Texas Lizzies just to have something to do. That was a mistake as I love those things and can't leave them alone. I carried a big plateful next door and have some saved for my daughter as this is her favorite cookie. She is coming to go with me to the clinic to have an ultrasound on Friday.
I am longing for warm weather so that I can tackle the garage. It is quite a mess. I sold Jim's shopsmith and some other saws. I have cleaned out the freezer and fridg that are in the garage. I am always looking for something to do as it keeps my mind occupied.
"My mistakes have been my greatest heartache, but I wouldn't be who I am without them."
